PLAYER TRANSFER POLICY

Rules and Rationale for Player Movement

Transfers to other softball associations or clubs

The transfer policy applies to any player wishing to transfer to another association or club.

  • Under Calgary Minor Softball rules - player transfers for U9 and U11 players will not be granted.

Purpose

  • To give West Valley an opportunity to foster programs and support player skill development.

  • To develop fair and equitable criteria for players wishing to participate in programs outside of their designated clubs.

  • To provide a deadline for player movement.

  • To prevent a decline in players.

Conditions for Player Release

  • The player wishes to play at a level of softball not offered by West Valley.

  • There are not enough players to form a team at that player's age group.

  • Extenuating circumstances voted on by the West Valley Board.

Process

  • A player transfer form will be filled out by the parent or guardian:

  • This form is sent to the receiving association President for discussion.

  • The receiving association President must contact West Valley Softball’s President for discussion.

  • Player transfer requests submitted to the West Valley President will receive an acknowledgement email within 7 days.

  • West Valley President must respond to the transfer request with the acceptance or denial of transfer on or before February 15th of the current year.  This will allow West Valley evaluations to occur and proper considerations can take place.

  • West Valley Softball will not consider any player transfers received after March 1st.

  • Incomplete transfer request forms will not be considered.

Approvals

  • If both West Valley and the Receiving Association agree to the transfer, and the player transfer is approved by Calgary Minor Softball, then the player may play for the team outside of West Valley.

  • Player transfers are for one season, expiring on August 31 of the current year.

  • Please follow Calgary Minor Softball and Softball Alberta’s policy to ensure all forms are distributed appropriately.

Denied Transfer

  • If a player transfer is denied, then the denied transfer will be forwarded to the Softball Alberta Minor Director and the Softball Alberta Executive Director.

  • West Valley President will provide rationale regarding the denial and information on the West Valley appeal process and options for the player.  This information will be sent to the Receiving Associations President.

  • If an appeal is put forth through the West Valley’s appeal process and the denial of the player transfer is upheld, the player then has the right to appeal to Softball Alberta as per Article I, of the Softball Alberta Handbook.
